mataji in the garden

we call our granny 'mataji' she usually doesnt come to the garden ever and certainly never puts her foot down on the grass coz one the dogs keep making little holes which can be troublesome and then the cushioning effect of the grass probably makes her feel a little insecure. i would not blame her at 87 for all those imaginary fears.

so here is mataji standing and looking at my garden and the flowers around in the entire house. now we have been in this house for a little over four months and gee...spring is not all that bad here. i counted a maximum of 15-16 varieties of flowers that are growing right now or in the recent past (coz roses are no longer blooming due to my shifting them from pots into the soil)

poppy flowers

i was about to pluck this plant as a weed, when rajesh the gardener told me it was a poppy plant. so now when i see the flowers in spring, i realise what a mistake i could have made.

praying for the safety of the new croton

in my house one has to not only look after the other needs of the plants but occasionally the safety too, as nikki is very fond of ripping things apart. i am sowing at least one of these crotons outside our main lobby door. along with it there is an intention to put in a climber of grapes. Amen!

a frond of palm

this palm tree grew in my balcony when i was in delhi, now outside my bedroom here. the picture was taken in delhi though.

i stood by my car and took this one. this was inside the sundar nursery in new delhi...and at the time of taking this picture i had gone to take grass for sowing in my own garden.

once upon a time i lived in this house in delhi. from the balcony i had this view! almost doesnt look like delhi. due to this park outside our house (not my current house, but the house of my birth and where the parents still live) the real estate prices have really gone up. however due to that park alone...i left the house...but that is another story. for now, you see in this picture, me in the summer of 2007, the bird water bowl, the flowers on my bonsai bougainvilla, my palm as well as the lush greenery of the trees of the park outside.

fruits and vegetables

here is mom holding her favourite brinjal/aubergines/eggplants in her hands, standing by the banane trees on the north western corner of the house. that was then...for now the vegetables are over and i decided to move the banana grove to outside the house, where everyone who passes by can see their tropical foliage. guruji also told me it is auspicious to see a banana tree on your way out.

tori

when we moved into this house, i saw this flower growing. i did not do anything with it, but took a picture-even when the fruit came, we didn't pluck it. so here's the tori flower for you.

the naughty one always there, everywhere!

the humble sada-bahaar

sada-bahar (is it called periwinkle?) flowers in abundance here, on my north side of the lawn. in fact on another side too in a different colour. this picture just to mark and honor this plant, though in due course i would have to weed it out!

the lawn that is out of bounds for everyone

since we have sown the grass just recently, it requires profuse watering. and just last week we even put the FYM here- farm yard manure- which for some reason the dogs love to nibble on. automatically i have decided to disallow them from coming here. i know it is a pity but then it is needed for a few weeks now.

sowing my garden

its november now and we are starting our garden now- having moved into this house in the middle of october. for now i am concentrating on the annuals for spring, the lawn grass and thinking what all i could plant on the various sides...
